The Everything Code

One macro idea, taken seriously: the debasement of currency by central banks is not a background condition — it is the market. Here is the formula, the cycle, and why it makes the rest of the puzzle fall into place.

The single sentence

The Everything Code rests on one claim that most market comments quietly avoid: the debasement of currency — the quiet, constant expansion of official money — is the dominant force behind modern asset prices. Not earnings, not narratives, not a single Fed meeting. The money itself, being diluted over time, is what lifts everything that is denominated in it.

If that is true, then the market is not a thousand independent stories. It is one story with a thousand proxies. That is exactly what makes it usable for a normal person: you no longer need to track every sector. You need to understand the one force and read the market as its expression.

Why it matters

Call it “the biggest macro trade of all time” if you like. The practical consequence is calm, not hype: a single, cyclical, forecastable driver means a simple process beats a thousand opinions. That is the whole point of the Everything Code.

The formula underneath

Strip the jargon away and the Everything Code is built on an identity about where growth comes from. A healthy economy grows three ways: more people, more productivity, or more debt. When the first two slow down and the debt keeps growing, the gap has to be filled. It gets filled with money.

GDP growth  =  population growth  +  productivity growth  +  debt growth

Watch what happens across decades: population flattens, technology-driven productivity is real but uneven, and debt rises relentlessly. The only growing term is debt. So the system increasingly relies on expanding credit and the money supply to service existing obligations. That is the debasement engine — and it is structural, not accidental.

Engine
Debt → Debasement
What raises asset prices is the increase in debt, driven by the need to fund it. The rise in prices is a symptom of the dilution.
Transmission
Liquidity
Liquidity is a function of debt. More debt, more liquidity, more buying power chasing the same set of assets.
Shape
Cyclical
The credit/debt cycle repeats with a rough rhythm — the “four-year liquidity cycle” — which is what makes it readable in advance.
Result
Harder assets win
When the money supply grows, assets with a fixed or independent supply (think Bitcoin) hold more of the value as paper currency falls.

The numbers that make it stick

The clearest expression of the thesis is an empirical observation about what actually drives each asset class. Put bluntly: liquidity explains the overwhelming majority of Bitcoin's short-run moves — roughly 90% — and an even larger share of a broad tech index like the NASDAQ, on the order of 95%.

Read that line twice, because it changes everything about how you think about a chart. If nine-tenths of the move has one cause, then most of the daily commentary is describing the effect, not the cause. Flows, headlines, momentum, sentiment — those are the symptoms. The driver is the liquidity position underneath them.

What “90% / 95%” really means

It is not a prediction tool — it is a focus tool. It says: stop trying to explain Bitcoin from a thousand angles. Track the money side — M2, credit, the direction of the rate cycle — and roughly nine-tenths of the story is right there. The remaining 10–5% is the part where individual narratives and positioning matter.

The two-phase cycle

The Everything Code treats the debt/liquidity system as a two-phase machine, and recognizing which phase you are in is the skill:

PhaseWhat is happeningMarket signature
Phase 1 — Refinancing Existing debt must be rolled over. Rates are the constraint: refinancing only works when they come down. Credit is defensive. Rates are falling. Risk assets are still weak — the setup, not the payoff.
Phase 2 — Debasement Rates are lower, the balance sheet can expand, and the system resumes diluting currency to fund the debt. Liquidity returns. Risk assets re-rate hard — this is where the “90% / 95%” kicks in.

Most of the pain in a market comes from trading the effect while sitting in the wrong phase. If you can say which phase you are in, you stop mistaking a Phase 1 setup for a Phase 2 payoff — and you stop mistaking a Phase 2 top for a beginning.

What it does to a portfolio

This is the part that connects directly to the Bitcoin track of this Learning Environment. If there is effectively one dominant macro factor, then the logic of broad, undifferentiated diversification weakens. When a single force dominates, concentrated positioning — the best expression of that force — beats a diversified basket that dilutes exposure to it.

That is the thesis behind a barbell: a core that holds the monetary bet (Bitcoin and, as the platform/bett layer, the major layer-1 networks), plus a smaller speculative sleeve for the applications riding on top. The Everything Code is the why. The 90/10 sizing is the how. See the Bitcoin · Apply page for the process around it.

The honest boundary

Everything described here is a framework, not a forecast. Cycles are forecastable in direction and roughly shape, not in exact timing. The value of the Everything Code is that it gives you a single, checkable thing to watch — the money side — instead of a hundred things to believe.
